Alright, y'all....been here a while but its been ages since I have posted or commented on anything. That ends today. I live in the Old Dominion in a little bastion of common sense and compassion known as Fredericksburg. I vote in every election but have to admit that my passion for engaging my fellow citizens has wained over the last few years. While I have become alarmed and disgusted but the treatment of my fellow voters using voter ID laws and the overt racism and sexism displayed by the right wing media I have pretty much avoided getting involved at the grass roots level.
While there are many reasons for this (I am an SES in the Fed Gov't and a Naval Officer in the Reserves, which makes me very leery about overt political activity), I pledge to the Kos community that this ends today. I am going to find my local Democratic Committee and participate at the grass roots level as much as the law allows me.
I will post regular diaries about our activities here at the local level....which I hope will give insight in to the unique challenges facing Democrats in this district (we just re-elected Rob Whittman...whom no one I know can name a single thing he has ever done - good or bad - for our district, and to my south just elected David Brat...a total weirdo Tea Party doofus.)
So....wish me luck as I dip my toe (and maybe entire leg) in to local political activism.
