An Open Letter to the Democratic Party
Once again, you have embarrassed me. Once again, you have shown yourselves to be weak, feckless, and spineless. For the past two years, you have stood idly by while the GOP has lied with impunity. When someone tells lies and no one has the courage to call them out, the lies appear to be truth. Rather than take pride in your accomplished and brilliant President, you allowed the other side to convince you he wasn’t worth defending. When the media and the Republicans spread fear and untruth, you have to fight back. When you fail to fight, you fail to inspire. When you fail to inspire, you are not worthy of leadership roles.
How can you turn red states blue, when you tacitly agree with liars by your failure to respond to those lies? Voters don’t know whom to trust, and you run from your success like scared rabbits. Is it any wonder voters don’t trust you? You don’t trust yourselves. When a team is down and they fight like there is no tomorrow, the crowd rallies around them. When a team is down, and the teammates start pointing fingers at each other, the crowd senses that weakness and abandons them.
Howard Dean built a democratic machine and catapulted a young senator into office. Then the Democratic Party stood around and allowed the other side to define him as unpopular when he isn’t, indecisive when he isn’t, and weak when he isn’t. Not one time in this election cycle, did a democrat stand up and say how proud he or she was of their leader. Not once did someone say how proud he or she was to have voted for Obama and proud to support him. If a party’s candidates cannot get behind their leader, how can they expect low information voters to get behind him?
Shame on you; today, I am ashamed to admit that I am a Democrat. Your failure to fight has hurt me deeply. Republicans call you weak, and not only do you let them, you prove them right. The voters gave you an opportunity to lead, and to change our country. You hunkered down and whined instead. Go lick your wounds; they were self inflicted.
