No, this is not a political diary. Frankly, I’ve had my fill of those for a while. Have to take a break, and spend a little time decompressing. Crying foul makes me angry. Being disappointed can become depressing. So, if only for today, I prefer listening to the crying fowl.
This morning, while having my coffee out on the porch, I found myself wedged between the sounds of a woodpecker "knock, knock, knock" foraging for food in a tree to my right and my Turtledove couple pitching woo in a tree to my left. But wait – another dove flew up, interrupted and was quickly ushered away, only to be joined by the female shortly thereafter, leaving Casanova behind – or was the other guy Casanova? Apparently it’s a Turtledove love triangle.
Then, in the sky above, I heard the distinctive cries of geese in their yearly migration south. It’s that time of year, here in southeast Texas, when the leaves are still falling, and the mornings are crisp and cool, only to give way to warmer afternoons. Those geese will be stopping in fields to be picked off by hunters, but when they’re not being shot at, they can make the ground look snow covered. I’ve done a double take more than once.
I heard Mama scratching around so I threw out some chicken scratch. Didn’t see her lone offspring, just her with her occasional “bwaaaak”. While she was eating something spooked her. I looked around, knowing there were no dogs out, and the neighbor’s cats are not dumb enough to threaten her – they run from her, actually.
But then I saw it, a hawk gliding above us.
Don't mind me, I'm just listening to the crying fowl.
Have a good one, folks!
And, if any of you would like to explain how the heck to get the attributes on the pics to show up, I'm willing to learn. I copied/pasted the Creative Commons HTML attribution line into every one of them, but they're not showing up. Because of that, I'm going to post them all down here at the bottom of the page. I'm thinking I need to trim some of the code off and am open to tips.
