Not a long entry today, but I feel the need to write about these things more than ever because it's important. So, yeah.
There is a good chance, by now, you've heard the news of this:
Which has, admittedly, made the internet lose their collective mind. And rightfully so.
Except there's a problem. Buying into the premise in the first place means ceding ground on Obamacare.
By arguing the premise on its logic (Net Neutrality means a government takeover, JUST LIKE OBAMACARE!), you have to accept the reasoning that Obamacare is a government takeover in the first place.
Many outlets are fuming mad. "IT'S NOTHING LIKE OBAMACARE!" And then outline how internet companies are trying to take our internet freedom away (which, btw, should be the jingoistic reply to anyone who feels the need to be anti-net neutrality). It's a good thing to do, except that in an effort to argue against it means you have to accept the principle of the argument.
Obamacare is good. It is not a government takeover, and the allegory is purposefully terrible. Defend Net Neutrality, yes. But defend Obamacare too.
