Dear Michigan voters, I have a question for you: Exactly what did you get out of the Detroit bankruptcy? Snyder's henchmen shook down 22,000 retirees, pillaged the city, and ran up huge tabs. And what did you get out of it? I really want to know, because here is how I see it:
Suppose you are walking down the street and see a mob enforcer roughing someone up because he can't pay back a debt. The way I see it, you have four options:
1) You could intervene, tell the mobster that 'Yeah, its too bad he owes you money but if he can't pay then he can't pay. That doesn't give you the right to rough him up like this. You should be more careful with whom you lend money, now get out of here!"
2) You could say "Meh, not my problem", and keep walking.
3) You could say "Hey, it looks like you are having trouble collecting from this guy. Tell ya what, give me 10% of the take and I'll hold him down while you work him over."
4) You could say "Hey, that looks like fun! I've never roughed anyone up before! Can I help? I'll do it for free!"
SO, what did you get out of the bankruptcy? Do you even have a penny to show for it? Are your taxes lower? Did you really help the mobster for free?
And, before you cross your arms, put on your serious face, and say in a deep voice "We had to do it", there is no "we" here. If there is no money in your pocket, there is no "we". So tell me again what you got out of it? How much did your taxes go down?
Just so you know, I have this crazy radical theory, and it goes like this: people get the leadership they vote for, and that leadership generally reflects the makeup and attitudes of the voters. So, what kind of leadership will you be voting for?
