It seems that the (far) religious right is after Houston Mayor Annise Parker's head. They have been floating a recall petition ever since she got Houston's equal rights law (HERO) passed. They (religious right pastors and leaders in Houston) will be having a rally today about that (HERO) and what they call "religious liberty." It's actually about their right to force everyone else to abide by their version of Christianity. The issue intensified when some area pastors were subpoenaed for copies of past sermons. They were looking for evidence about the petition to have HERO put on the ballot. The Mayor said that she did not know how broad the language in the request was. The City has since
withdrawn the subpoena request Anyway, here is what Matt Barber has to say about it:
"Should we make an example of her? Absolutely. I was born in Waco, Texas, and lived in Houston, so I’ve got a dog in this hunt. Really, we all do. Houston Mayor Annise Parker has disqualified herself from the privilege of serving the people of south Texas. She must either resign, effective immediately, or Houstonians should begin, without delay, the process of recalling her from office. Strike while the iron’s hot, I say, and right now it’s glowing cultural Marxist red. Parker has been caught, cold, with her hand in the totalitarian cookie jar. She has, on multiple counts, betrayed her oath of office. She’s put her own radical self-interests above the best interests of her constituents and has all but spit on the very U.S. Constitution she’s sworn to uphold. This woman (I’m loath to lend her credibility by calling her 'Madam Mayor') has revealed herself to be a single-issue-driven sexual extremist with zero regard for the rule of law."

Supporters of the Mayor and of the LGBT community are tweeting about the rally using the #IStandSunday hashtag. Religious right leaders are as well.
Some interesting tweets are below the fold.
