Who says Keystone XL isn’t a sustainable, renewable project? Just ask Tar Sands Timmy . . . and Senator (for now) Mary Landrieu. Now that “jobs” claims have been debunked and US domestic oil production is booming, the Keystone XL pipeline project has morphed into primarily a political symbol.
Surely the new Republican Congress will pass a gung-ho Keystone XL bill, then it will be up to Obama to kill this ridiculous project. Let’s hope the president sees this pipeline for the climate-changing, forest-killing, jobs fantasy that it is. Unfortunately, it looks like the decimation of Alberta’s boreal forests is continuing, regardless of Keystone XL. Why should we make things even easier for these extractive multinational corporations?
Don’t be fooled by the jobs and energy independence arguments, both are completely bogus. And even if the pipeline was going to provide jobs and bring us closer to energy independence, it still wouldn’t be worth the cost to the environment and to, um, humans. Tar Sands Timmy:
Hooray! Everything is coming up Tar Sands Timmy!
(Well, almost everything.)
See, the Keystone XL pipeline is all about pumping clean, healthy, renewable and sustainable . . . political favors and payola through America’s heartland!
From the delicious tar sands of Alberta to the Gulf Coast of Texas, Keystone XL is essential . . .
For jobs! Er, job, singular . . . because Senator Mary Landroo needs to keep hers!
And the newly-humbled Democrats in Congress need to grow some oil and gas cojones to attract more petro-donors.
Why should Republicans have all the fun!
Beautiful tar sands filth is the Bipartisan Bitumen of politics!
This is about America . . . or at least about a Canadian company building a pipeline through America to a refinery that is co-owned by Saudi Arabia where it’ll be shipped to China and beyond. [big breath]
So who cares if domestic oil production is up seventy percent, oil prices are down, and seven-hundred-thousand barrels a day are already moving across the border . . . it’s the politics that matter!
Tell Obama to do the right thing (just like the House and almost the Senate), and let Keystone XL pump clean, healthy, renewable and sustainable political favors and payola . . . from sea to shining sea!
