The Guardian has an interview with Bill Murray that is a very enjoyable read. Many people have heard about how he enjoys rubbing elbows with regular folks and he really comes across as a pretty normal guy. While people like Matt Damon may be very vocal about his views, Bill Murray just seems to fly under the radar more.
This is a man whose visitations – crashing a stag do here, rocking the karaoke there – are taken as elusive proof of his divinity. If God was one of us, the logic goes, he’d be Bill Murray.
I really liked most of the original SNL crew, but he stands alone. Chevy Chase was incredible too, but he never came across as "One of us".
With Bill and his fans it’s an equal playing field. He’s not floating above them in some hallowed showbiz world, he’s right there with them, living life, like the big brother or uncle you look forward to seeing at Christmas. He doesn’t live in a gilded cage and run from his fans, he runs with them.
I think he is also one of us from the political spectrum as well. He thinks Ralph Nader's actions are worthy of far more respect than he gets. He was not a big fan of him helping the Dem's to lose the Gore/Bush election, but he believes what Ralph has achieved in his life is worthy of far more respect than he gets.
“Businesses bitch about this guy and people hate him because he’s trying to make change. He hasn’t become like super-crazy-wealthy or anything and it’s not about his celebrity. He’s really interested in improving the quality of life for the whole world. Not just America the entire world.”
It would really be enjoyable to sit down and talk with him. And maybe drink a few beers at the same time. I don't think there are many people in Hollywood I would want to spend an evening with, but he would be one.
