This is the country we’ve become: one wealthy family
owns more wealth than the bottom 40% of Americans combined. They also employ more of those in the bottom 40% than any other company in America. With over 100 billion dollars, the family will live in comfort for many generations, their employees, not so much. Actually, many of their employees can’t even enjoy a night off with their families; maybe the Walton’s don’t feel their employees have any reason to be thankful. But surely they are thankful for
the public assistance they receive, thanks to the Walton’s using their overwhelming power to avoid providing benefits and a living wage.
Walmart is not the only retailer open on Thanksgiving: Kmart, Kohl’s, Target and others feel we should leave our families behind to enjoy the day with our friends, MasterCard and Visa. Our Thanksgiving will be spent with family, thankful for our ever-decreasing bounty, but it will no doubt be cut short, as those working in retail must leave early to prepare for Black Friday.
Join Silicon Valley Kos as we stand with Walmart workers seeking respect and $15 an hour. Details below.
