I thought I'd do a Hey, WTF Michigan? diary, but pierre9045 has that covered already very well and I don't want to detract from the conversation over there. So please do check out his diary for more wailing and gnashing of teeth if you like. Possible remedies are fine there, or here, too.
Here, instead, let's share our positive memories of the campaign season. I know you must have some.
I'll put forward a couple. Over the months I got to know a few more local activists better, much better in some cases, and though I suspect we still underperformed around here, it was a good learning experience. It makes me feel more inclined to continue to take part.
Then yesterday I met someone who's been very involved in local politics for a long time; she's a permanent staffer for the man who is our representative in the MI House. Nice woman with excellent ideas for development over the long haul (e.g. candidate recruitment and training; contact list for local experts willing to serve on committees and boards; general interest in cultivating very localized discussions of issues and solutions). So that conversation was heartening even if the short term looks dismal.
How about all of you? I'm sure there were some high points that will cheer you long after this horrible day after. I hope they'll continue to help even after we're deep in the mire of our thoroughly Republican-dominated state politics.
Thanks for coming here tonight to share your stories, good and bad. This is an Open Thread for all things Michigan.
