Today is a couple of days away from two years since I was laid off from the last job that I've so far been able to obtain. No paychecks since then, unemployment insurance long since ran out, job retraining resulted in a government paid for AAS (Associate of Applied Science) in Energy Management that, so far, no one wants to give me a chance to prove my worth with.
On the other hand, I'm a 66 year old ex-con, so pickings are slim.
But my bitch two years ago, and my bitch today is that I exceeded every company standard for retention, I was the oldest (and, really, the last one even approaching old), and that the employee count before and after was one less senior citizen than before, and one more 22 year old after.
All coincidence, or even my fault, according to the company. Except that two written evaluations in the six months before the lay off rated me sky high. Oh, and, my immediate supervisor at the time signed a Notarized Statement that I was the victim of age discrimination.
Even with all of that, I lost the first round of the fight (please keep in mind that I have done all of this on my own. "Private Counsel" won't take one of these cases until after it is nearly won, one way or the other.) Utah believes in "Job Creators" to the max.
Anyway, things are finally heating up. The $400/hour hired gun for the two billion dollar revenue Corp. that shit canned me wants to pound on me in "Deposition" for a couple of days next week. (Yeah, I've changed names to protect the guilty. But not really. I was laid off from a wholly owned subsidiary of the largest printing company in Canada, Transcontinental. A company who, in Canada, has large numbers of employees whose jobs are under Union Contract, and thus protected.)
I'm used to fighting my own legal battles, and even winning some of them (lifetime, 3 Cert Petitions granted to date by the SCOTUS.) But I'm weak on "Deposition", and I'm weak on "Age Discrimination". I mean, if someone out there could throw me a bone here, I think that that would be really, really great.
Thanks in advance.
