I am running for County Council District 2 in Frederick County Maryland.
We are having the inaugural election for a newly minted Charter Government, which was a regular slate of 5 Commissioners. I filed at the last minute because no Democrats came forward. The present commission is all Republicans.

Frederick County is one county up from Northwest DC. It borders WV, VA [Potomac River] and PA. Being located as it is, Frederick has been growing like crazy since the early 80's. We have a lot of development, school crowding, a landfill that is getting full and quite a bit of infrastructure that needs to be addressed to keep up with all the activity.
We have very good schools despite the tamping down of the budget in recent years. We need more schools now and even more based on housing starts in the pipeline.
We have an incinerator on the table which is opposed by more than half of the County, and it was supposed to be shared by adjacent Carroll County, but now they are balking and have all but backed out. Air quality should be improved and an incinerator isn't the path to cleaner air.
There is a homeless problem. Along with that, there is a dearth of moderately priced housing. We have an APFO, but that can be scrapped in lieu of a penalty. We have TIF proposals that will mean long term debt obligations for the taxpayers and CDAs that are wanting subsidies.
We have several development proposals that residents don't like and think will diminish their lifestyles and crowd the schools and the roads.
I would prefer a composting set up a la SF. I am against the incinerator. The Smart Growth Laws Maryland has enacted aren't really being implemented and they should be.
The current ins are not responsive to the voters' needs and I want to change that.
