I understand that the US State Department has of late been inclined toward interventionsim, whether it be Warren Christopher, Madeline Albright, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Hillary Clinton, or John Kerry.
I would also say that I am very grateful that Barack Obama cut off Kerry at the knees on the whole "bomb Syria" thing.
I would also note that (as it should be) much of the day to day policy is being executed at the Assistant Secretary level.
And then we have Victoria "Fuck the EU" Nuland, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, who is blithely stating that, "Since the declaration of Ukrainian independence in 1991, the United States supported the Ukrainians in the development of democratic institutions and skills in promoting civil society and a good form of government - all that is necessary to achieve the objectives of Ukraine’s European. We have invested more than 5 billion dollars to help Ukraine to achieve these and other goals."
5 BILLION dollars over the past 23 years, or (per capita) about 4x what Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina spent in California Senate race in 2010, year in and year out, for TWENTY THREE FUCKING YEARS.
What's more, under Nuland's watch a lot of that money has gone toward the reactionary Svoboda party and its accompanying Pravyi Sektor militia.
Is it any wonder then that one of the first things that the new Ukrainian Parliament did was to deligitimize the Russian language in the Ukraine, which has often been the first step towards ethnic cleansing Russian speakers in a region?
The policy implications of this sort of US Foreign behavior are legion. Look what the overthrow of a democratically elected PM in the 1950s wrought in Iran.
So this is really stupid, Allen & John Foster Dulles shit, and it is precisely the sort of crap that the most Neocon of Neocons love.
It's like the State Department is figuratively in bed with the uber Neocon Robert Kagan, he is one of the co-founders of PNAC.
In a very real way, State IS metaphorically in bed with Robert Kagan, he sits on their Foreign Affairs Policy Board.
Additionally, he is LITERALLY in bed with Victoria "Fuck the EU" Nuland, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs: they are happily married with two children.
Understand something here: We are talking about a foreign policy, whether you call it Neocon or "Humanitarian Intervenist", which has been shown to be morally and intellectually bankrupt and (in the long run) damaging both to the world and the United States.
How do these people continue to end up in policy making positions?
How much more "miserable failure" does the American public, and the world at large, have to tolerate before they are told to flip burgers, or something?
