Morning Motlies.
Memory triggers! These are associations that are so hardwired in our brains that exposure in any form to one will immediately transport you to a point of time in the past.
I have quite a few, but one of the strongest and strangest is the association of Port Isaac and Blue.
There is a British TV series called Doc Martin, which is also shown in the US on Acorn tv, and is located in the fictitious town of Port Gwenn, but is filmed in the real town of Port Isaac.
Now Port Isaac is an old fishing and smugglers village on the North Coast of Cornwall, and due to its geology, the original village snuggles in a cove and is pretty much unchanged for the last 200 years. As an example, the only car park is the beach, and you had better move your car before high tide.
.
.
Now, in 1971, I had just passed my driving test, and as my father was a motor dealer I had access to cars, so a couple of friends (Simon and Chris) and I decided to go to Cornwall for a weeks holiday (Vacation for y'all). One day we ended up in Port Isaac late morning, and wandering the streets near the harbour, we heard the sound of Joni Mitchell's Blue coming out of an open window of the kitchen behind a pub. So we sat there and listened entranced for a few minutes.
Now whenever I see Port Isaac, I think of Blue, and whenever I hear Blue I think of Port Isaac.
What trips your memory meter?
