Yesterday was the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Federal Building in Oklahoma City and much of America's media reported on that horrific milestone, with a notable exception, Fox News. For the last 10 days Fox News has been focused on brazenly hyping up a range war on southern Nevada where an armed militia came to Cliven Bundy's assistance in his standoff with the BLM, (primarily by menacing federal employees tasked with enforcing the law and a recent court order against Bundy's trespassing on BLM land).
Fox News Carnival Barkers Gin Up A Range War
By JEREMY HOLDEN
Fox News began agitating for a range war on April 9, sympathetically portraying Cliven Bundy as a folk hero based on the Nevada rancher's refusal for two decades to pay the required fees for grazing his cattle on public land. While Nevada reporters have made clear that Bundy is "clearly wrong" and "breaking the law," Fox has waged a PR campaign romanticizing Bundy and the armed militia groups that fled to his ranch and forced a standoff with federal agents who were executing a court order that allowed them to impound his cattle.
Fox News has portrayed this militia as heroic and patriotic, and reminding their viewers that members of a similar right wing militia flash roasted a preschool full of children in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building didn't go along with Fox News' 10 day extravaganza shamelessly glorifying and promoting right wing armed militias.
.
Fox News can't let the far right's violent history get in the way of promoting the rise of a far right factional armed force to intimidate the government. Come to think of it that's also what's another government is facing in the Eastern Ukraine. Is that the kind of standoff we we should expect to see more of here in America? Fox News is doing its best to move America in that direction.
