SPOILER ALERT! Do not read below the squiggle if you don't want to know who was fired!
Television, depending on who you are I either watch a lot of TV or a little. Must see TV for me is "Doctor Who" and "The Daily Show". (Alright, I admit it, "The Rachel Maddow Show" too.) Otherwise even with shows I like, for example Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD, I watch after its first showing later with On Demand.
So anyway that’s my personal confession. There is a “reality” show I like as well called “Duel Survivor” that as the name implies has two individual hosts performing survival techniques for each episode together.
And because its TV there has to be some kind of gimmick like one is a witch and the other is a vampire. Ok, not really, their gimmick is that one is Cody Lundin, who teaches survival courses in Arizona when he isn’t working for Discovery Channel on the aforementioned show.
Now what makes him different is that he has a philosophy about living that he has embraced and part of that is he never wears shoes or even long pants. That’s right toss this guy in the snow and if it’s bad enough he’ll wear socks.
The other host (there have been two) is a more regular Joe, who’s a military veteran. So you get it, together they form an “Odd Couple” scenario. But let’s face it only one of them makes them odd. And today (though the information has been out for over a month) I just found out that Cody was fired after being in only the first four episodes of the current season (4th).
If I understand the circumstances (the studio says one thing, the talent says another I’m going with his account) the producers wanted him to do something dangerous he refused and got fired. Are you frelling (TV reference, look it up) kidding me? This is as stupid as firing Keith Olbermann, you don’t fire the talent you fire the boneheaded producer! One costs you money the other makes you money, is this a concept that no longer applies in the modern world?
As far as I was concerned the show was Cody Lundin, I mean come on they even proved that you could replace the other host with just any other tough guy by firing Dave Canterbury and replacing him with Joe Teti. But get rid of your gimmick? How on earth does that work? And why do I care so much? All I know is that I do and writing it down helps a little I think.
Not that there is any point, all this went down last year the Discovery Channel has long since already replaced him so asking people to save the show with a Star Trek write in campaign isn’t even a vein thought. Hundreds of thousands of people have shared this news on social media already so it’s clear it’s out there. I suppose I wanted it out in just one more spot too.
I suppose in some way I hope that somehow this might help contribute to a new TV show (not on Discovery I would hope). Hey Netflix want some more content? Just hire Cody and Dave and boom you have yourself another show and you don’t even need to pay for their accommodations!
