There's been some good polling news come out today for Democrats in the South. But here's one poll from the West that the DKE folks touched upon but I wanted to bring up:
http://thehill.com/...
A new survey conducted for a group backing Colorado Sen. Mark Udall (D) shows him locked in a tight competition with Rep. Cory Gardner (R) for one of the state's Senate seats.
The automated telephone survey, conducted by Democratic pollster Public Policy Polling for the League of Conservation Voters, gives Udall 47 percent support among registered voters to Gardner’s 43 percent support, results within the poll’s 4-point margin of error. Ten percent of respondents were undecided.
Other surveys, both Democratic and Republican, have shown a similarly tight race for the seat, which became more competitive for the GOP when Gardner jumped in earlier this year.
But the environmental group trumpeted the polling results as evidence that its $1 million ad campaign — criticizing Gardner for his ties to billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch and his support from the oil industry — launched in April is working. - The Hill, 5/12/14
Here's the proof:
http://www.scribd.com/...
- Gardner’s name recognition has increased from 48% on a PPP poll in mid-March to now 77%. But his negatives are rising a lot faster than his positives- only 35% of voters have a favorable opinion of him now to 42% with a negative one. Previously voters were pretty evenly divided on him at 23/25. For a majority of the voters who’ve gotten to know Cory Gardner for the first time over the last month, the first impression has been a negative one.
- Mark Udall leads Gardner 47/43 in a head to head match up for this fall’s election. Previously Udall’s lead was only 42/40, but as the race has gotten more defined in the last month he’s pushed up much closer to the critical 50% mark.
-By a 56/19 spread voters see Gardner as more likely than Udall to do the bidding of big oil companies in Washington, and that perception is likely to hurt him even more between now and the fall. 56% of voters say they’re less likely to vote for a candidate who voted to provide billions of dollars in tax breaks to oil companies, compared to only 11% who consider that to be a positive. - PPP/LCV, 5/12/14
Udall's been painting Gardner as an extremist who's out of touch with Colorado voters and the League of Conservation Voters have been hitting him with ads as well. While the poll is encouraging, anything can happen between now and November so we need to make sure voters come out and re-elect Udall. If you would like to donate and get involved with Udall's re-election bid, you can do so here:
