On Thursday, the 2014 World Cup begins as the home country Brazil takes on Croatia in the opening game. The opening ceremonies will include all things Brazilian musically, including this year's theme song "We are One (Ola Ola)" performed by Pitbull with Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte.
While going through my iTunes account, I noticed that I had various songs by artists representing most of the countries involved in this year's World Cup. I am seriously thinking of putting together a playlist and I have numerous songs--some classic, some campy--that could make an interesting listen.
Here are a few of the songs:
Representing Belgium is AB Logic's song from 1991:
From Switzerland:
The Netherlands has these classics:
Mexico's representative also has a tango flavor to it:
Four French songs (the last one by way of Mad Men):
Two diverse Japanese artists:
Unfortunately, this is my Korean one (sorry, K-Pop fans):
From Colombia, she sang the official song for 2010 World Cup and is the mother of Spain's Gerard Pique's child:
Australia is in the World Cup. I had several options, but this is my favorite:
Now, for the some of the heavyweights. The defending champion Espana's representatives:
Germany has several reps:
From Italia (including the maestro RIP):
And finally, Brazil:
No, I didn't forget about the two English speaking countries. Although they may be up for debate, here are the ones I chose.
First England:
And finally, the good ol' U.S. of A.:
Sadly, I do not have songs for Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Bosnia, Croatia, Honduras, Costa Rica, Greece, Russia, nor any of the African representatives. Since we are very multicultural, I would love some suggestions. Fire away, and to stay on topic, GOOOOOOAAALLL!!!!!!!!
