Heather Mizeur did not defeat the anointed O'Malley successor in Maryland, Anthony Brown.
But in my opinion she defeated Doug Gansler, who has millions of dollars stashed away, by tying him for second place ... 24% Gansler, 22% Mizeur.
The result also shows Brown with just 51% in the primary, not exactly a coronation for the Democratic establishment's candidate.
I get lots of press releases. Here's what she sent to supporters.
Tonight was never supposed to happen. There were a lot of skeptics who said I would never make it this far. People who lead from fear told me to get back in line. But together, we showed them the power a movement can have when we work together for positive change.
You were a part of history. You made a difference. Together, we united with a common purpose: to return our state government to the people. Today marks a critical step in that process. Because of your enthusiasm, your dedication to change, and your hard work, we have changed the way campaigns will be run in Maryland.
I’ve always believed in the Democratic process, and I’ve always known that no matter what happened tonight, Maryland is being left in good hands. That’s why when I congratulated my friend Anthony Brown earlier tonight, I told him that I would be his partner in ensuring a victory in November. I know I can count on all of you as well to help us keep Maryland’s Statehouse blue for the next four years and beyond.
Thank you for the support you’ve shown Delman and me. We never could have been this successful without your full backing. This campaign will go down in history as one of the greatest grassroots campaigns ever run in Maryland.
Thank you for your support,
Heather
