Okiciyap 2013 Block~ Proud of My Bleeding Heart
DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too.
The DK Quilt Guild has had many projects and quilt drives to help worthy charities. I would like to highlight a current & past projects.
Sara R is leading the effort to donate charity quilts during the NN14 Convention in Detroit.
This year, on July 18, Kossacks are giving a gift to the patients of the Detroit VA Medical Center, with special focus on the hospital's 65 bed nursing home. We are shooting for 65 quilts (and still need some more -- if you are a quilter and would like to help, please contact Sara R!), 65 teddy bears, 65 hand made cards, and 65 phone cards (more on that last one later). In addition, Winifred3 and broths have collected over 100 hand made scarves and hats (woo hoo!) that we hope will be especially helpful to the homeless vets the hospital serves.
But there is one more piece of the gift that the Readers & Book Lovers and others can help with -- and it doesn't cost anything but postage. The hospital has a library -- and donations of paper back books, DVDs or games are most welcome.Would you please look through your shelves and see if there are books, DVDs or games you would like to donate? If so, please mail them to:

NN13 Palo Alto VA Hospital~Spinal Cord Injury Unit Quilt Drive. Sara R wrote a beautiful diary about the great response from this Quilt Drive. I had the pleasure of helping deliver these wonderful quilts. Photo gallery of the donated quilts.
The DK Quilt Guild also contributed a quilt for the VA Hospital-Spinal Cord Injury Unit.

During the Autumn of 2012; the DKQuilt Guild decided to have a block challenge to help the Okiciyap Food Pantry. Each block was then added to create a beautiful quilt. Other Kossacks joined our efforts, and the Okiciyap Quilt Auction was born. It was a massive success, and the beautiful quilt now resides at the Food Pantry.

In 2012, we had a block challenge that had to incorporate orange & blue. Orange to represent Daily Kos and blue to represent NFTT. The Better Together Quilt was auctioned during the NN12 convention. The proceeds were donated to NFTT.

Are there any other Charity Quilts that you've donated? What other worthy charities have you donated your quilts? Please consider this diary as an open thread. Any quilting/sewing discussion is encouraged.

There are a few open dates. Would you like to write a future DK Quilt Guild diary? Please join in! Please volunteer within the comments. Thanks
