Bobby Jindal addressing gun-humpers, at Jindal's Master's, NRA-ILA, Annual meeting in Houston, TX on May 3, 2013
The Times-Picayune in New Orleans is reporting that at approximately 2:45AM two men got into a gun fight with each other, turned and open fired at a crowd of patrons on Bourbon Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. The shooting left nine injured and one in critically condition.
New Orleans police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said "two cowardly young men" were responsible for the carnage, which sent bystanders diving into bustling bars and nightclubs for cover, and others crawling into open storefronts as they bled.
In May of this year, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) approved a law allowing gun-humpers to bring their loaded guns into bars & restaurants that serve alcohol.
The Times-Picayune in New Orleans went on to report:
Police confirmed some of the victims were tourists, wounded in the 700 block of Bourbon Street when two men got into a gunfight around 2:45 a.m. No arrests have been made.
Last year, when Bobby Jindal signed 6 gun bills into law he
wrote:
BOBBY JINDAL: "We're not just signing a few bills -- we're also celebrating the Sportsman's Paradise and American values,"
"
celebrating the Sportsman's Paradise" ... what the f'ck!?!
On June 18, 2014, The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention published statistics that show:
Guns killed more people per capita in Louisiana than in any other state, recent government data show.
...
An analysis by the Violence Policy Center found high rates gun deaths in Louisiana and other states correlates with weak gun protection laws and high gun ownership.
Isn't that lovely, "
Guns killed more people per capita in Louisiana than in any other state" and in less than two months after Bobby Jindal signed a gun law allowing people to carry loaded weapons in bars: "gun fight" breaks out on Bourbon Street - 9 shot, one in critical condition.
Is this Bobby Jindal's idea of: "celebrating the Sportsman's Paradise"
See, this is the kind of deadly shit that happens when politicians, like Bobby Jindal, are bought and owned by the NRA ... two men get in a gun fight, 9 shot, one in critical condition.
The gun-humpers like to confuse people with their BS stats regarding "murder" rate versus "homicide."
Daniel Zelenka, president of the Louisiana Shooting Association, said that while the VPC study looked at gun death rates as opposed to strictly murder rates from guns, as some earlier reports did, it's important to note that some states with strong gun control laws have high murder rates and that some states with limited gun laws have low rates.
Yeah, "murder rates" do tend to drop when politicians, who are owned by the NRA, write laws that come short of legalizing "murder." You know, laws that allow people to kill anyone if they merely 'think' they 'feel' threatened without having to deal with that pesky "
duty to retreat" non-sense.
UPDATE:
The Times-Picayune in New Orleans is reporting now that two people are now in critical condition.
By day's end, four of the victims had been treated and released from area hospitals.
Two people -- the most seriously injured -- remained in critical condition at Interim LSU Hospital, Communications Officer Siona LaFrance said.
She said another three victims were in stable condition. Two other victims had been treated at Tulane Medical Center and released by Sunday evening.
The Times goes on to report about the recent history of gun violence on Bourbon Street:
In March, a man shot himself in the foot inside the Bourbon Heat nightclub after a security guard spotted a gun inside his pocket and lost control of it in the ensuing scuffle.
On the Saturday before Mardi Gras 2013, gunfire erupted in the packed 400 block of Bourbon Street after three men started arguing, leaving two women and two men wounded in the ensuing mayhem.
And amid Halloween 2011 revelry on Bourbon Street, a 25-year-old man was killed and seven others injured, including a tourist from France, when men opened fire on one another, hitting others in a chaotic crossfire.
Isn't that grand? Bobby Jindal was so excited to begin "
celebrating the Sportsman's Paradise" that even after the 2011 & 2013 mass shootings on Bourbon Street, he enacted a law that allows people to carry loaded weapons in bars.
I would like to note here that one person commented below that the law Jindal signed in May prohibits gun-toters from drinking alcohol while packing loaded guns in bars - but after reading the Bill, HB72, I could not find any restriction of consuming alcohol for those people who will be carrying loaded weapons into bars.
Bobby Jindal need not to worry, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne does not think mass shootings (plural) on Bourbon Street will adversely affect tourism money:
Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne responding to the mass shooting on Bourbon Street, said any violence, especially involving tourists, is concerning. But, he added, "I don't believe this one incident will keep people from coming to the city of New Orleans."
Dardenne said New Orleans' worst crime areas were usually outside the French Quarter, but, "This is obviously a glaring exception."
Well that's nice to know.
