This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care.
Last Chance Animal Rescue
"Last Chance Animal Rescue is a charitable, not-for profit 501(c)(3)organization, created to save the lives of animals. We rescue animals that are locate in "KILL" facilities and underwrite the costs of relocating them to "NO KILL" facilities and foster homes in hopes of finding them a forever family. We work with veterinarians for spay-neuter and provide other medical services until permanent placement is secured into a pre-screened home. We depend on your donations to continue to save these helpless loving animals from being killed, as a faithful friend you can support our ongoing mission to save as many lives as we can. We are grateful for our dedicated community of adopters, fosters, volunteers, sponsors and supporters, without you we could not achieve our life saving mission."

Foster
Thank you for considering the lifesaving act of becoming a foster!! Fosters truly are the FRONT LINE for these animals! A foster home is a temporary living situation for animals while they are awaiting placement in a permanent home. Foster families provide shelter, food, care, love, and guidance. The number of animals we can save depends entirely on the number of people who will open their homes and hearts to foster them. For some of these animals, this will be their first experience being treated as a family pet. You are their salvation and you should never underestimate the important role you are playing in their lives!
Why Foster?
The only way that we can save animals is with the help of foster homes. Being a foster family has rewards beyond the essential value of helping a pet in need find a new home. For some, it is a chance to have an animal companion without making a lifetime commitment, or to try new companions for an existing pet. Foster Care is critical to our rescue efforts, the more homes we have, the more animals we can save. Becoming a foster family is a very rewarding experience, and can be a lot of fun. There are tears shed when a foster finally finds a home of their own, but knowing you have saved a life and opened up space to save another helps the tears go away.
Programs
Middle Mutts Program
The Middle Mutts Program utilizes volunteer advocates to assist high kill shelters by networking animals through social media and email marketing campaigns bringing much needed exposure to the animals that are at risk. By fundraising for death row animals we increase their rescue opportunities which in turn assists our Rescue Partners in defraying the costs of vetting and transport. Visit their Facebook page for more information
Operation Fix
Operation Fix is our Community Initiatives Program. It is designed to educate, engage and support the communities in which these hi-kill shelters are located. We are working within these communities to lower shelter intake statistics by organizing community specific groups to manage local Foster Homes, Adoption Events, Spay/Neuter Events and Fundraisers. This program is also designed to serve as a guide to restructuring old sheltering processes and procedures by providing solutions that demonstrate life saving alternatives. Our goal is to empower and enable local resources so that they may save more lives while enriching their communities.
Purrfect Companions has a number of kittens, all neutered, vaccinated, tested and ready to go home. Because kittens tend to be adopted quickly, we don't always get their pictures onto our website.
The Rescue Ranger Program
The Rescue Ranger Program is designed to recognize our junior volunteers for their time and commitment to supporting our life saving mission. We are fortunate to have many children who enjoy volunteering with their families as a shared activity. Last Chance relies on team work and we are inspired by children who are willing to generously sacrifice their time and energy. The Rescue Ranger Award is earned when a child has volunteered for at least five events. Once achieved, through special projects like fundraising, children can go on to win additional awards and recognition.
Shelter Me
Shelter Me is a campaign launched by Last Chance Animal Rescue to fund the establishment of a private Safe Haven and Sanctuary for companion animals. This project will serve to house thousands of animals annually as they embark on their journey to find their new Furever Family. The sanctuary will also offer refuge to seniors and less adoptable animals who may suffer from behavioral challenges, injury or illness that would making them less desirable while equally deserving of a place to live. The Safe Haven will also offer a nursery for pregnant dogs, nursing dogs and orphaned animals. We will offer training and socialization to the animals in our care as well as full access to ongoing medical treatment.
