Corporations already won the right of free speech and thanks to the Supreme Court, now dump unlimited cash into U.S. elections. Now they've won freedom of religion and the right to selectively follow our laws. Sure, Alito says this "only" applies to matters of contraception and women's health, but I wouldn't be too sure. (Personally, I tend to trust the expertise of four Supreme Court justices over loads of pundits saying this is a narrow decision.)
Hobby Lobby, God bless 'em, is a proudly religious corporation. They wear their faith on their sleeve, and that's just fine, but that shouldn't give them the right to choose which laws they follow. The Supreme Court was so concerned with the religious freedoms enjoyed by the multi-billion dollar corporation's owners, they forgot about the workers who may not interpret religion and morality in the same way.
One of the more interesting aspects of this case is that so much of it hinged on Hobby Lobby's "belief" of scientific fact, which Alito accepted without question. Even though none of the contraceptives at issue actually cause abortions, the fact that Hobby Lobby believe they do was enough for the Court to allow them to skirt the law. (A law which provides more contraception that will in turn reduce abortions.) Enjoy the cartoon (and this one) and be sure to comment and pass it along.
