Today I was blown away and am still in shock by a complete surprise. Please stay with me while I give you a bit of background.
My wife and I recently moved back to the North Bay of San Francisco around wine country. I'm looking for a tech sales and marketing job right now. While I'm looking, I decided to take a part-time job at a family owned winery in the tasting room. Overall, the job doesn't pay much, but it is fun and I get free wine. Bonus!
See below for a huge surprise!
So far it has been a normal Tuesday, the tasting room is slow with hardly anyone coming in to taste. A gentleman comes in and tells me he is one of our neighbors next door. I believe because who would lie about that?
He said he was here to buy our best bottle of wine because, "We want to celebrate my brothers good fortune. What would you recommend?"
Wine is a very personal item. What might be wonderful to you might be swill water to someone else. I proceeded to ask him about his brother, what are his tastes, what type of foods does he enjoy, etc... I make a couple of recommendations and he says, "The blend you are recommending sounds great. Lets go with that."
I tell him, "Well, let's make certain this is what you and your family will enjoy. I'd like for you to have a little taste." I proceed to pour him a bit of the blend and our Cabernet. He prefers that one and proceeds to buy it.
I ring him up at the register and he hands me $300.00 cash while saying, "Please pay for the bottle of wine($45) and keep the change. Just pay it forward and help other people."
I was in shock and disbelief. I am still in shock. I told him I couldn't take the money but he put it on the counter and left. I was recently given the ALS challenge but won't do the ice bucket because it is a waste of water in CA. I'll give $100 to ALS and spread around the money to other people.
