In Mississippi, defeated tea party Republican Chris McDaniel continues to fight, and it continues to
not go well.
Mississippi’s state Republican Party on Wednesday refused to hear challenger Chris McDaniel’s effort to overturn his June 24 GOP runoff loss to U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran. The party says McDaniel would do better taking his challenge to court.
The reason for not granting McDaniel's request is a rather pedestrian one: There's simply no time to do both it and any expected court challenge, because the deadlines conflict. So they're encouraging McDaniel to do the court thing and leave them out of it.
“Obviously it is not possible for our committee of 52 volunteers to attempt to engage in such an exercise in a prudent manner in one day,” Nosef wrote. “In fact, given the extraordinary relief requests of overturning a United States Senate primary in which over 360,000 Mississippians cast votes, the only way to ensure the integrity of the election process and provide a prudent review of this matter is in a court of law.”
That leaders of the state's Republican Party have much closer ties to Sen. Thad Cochran than to McDaniel may or may not (cough) have been another factor.
Since you were no doubt wondering, McDaniel continues to have no actual evidence of election wrongdoing other than black people votin'. That used to be all it took to declare election shenanigans in Mississippi, and the McDaniel team seems to be genuinely confused as to why that's not sufficient "evidence" this time around.
