Democrat Mike Honda
Ro Khanna, "Democratic" challenger to Rep. Mike Honda, has some questionable friends. Not just because they're Republicans, but because they're
courting the tea party on his behalf. Remember, California has a jungle primary system, so two Democrats (well, a Democrat and Khanna) are running head-to-head in the election.
WASHINGTON — Late last month, a former Republican congressman sent an unusual email to supporters: Help me bring the Tea Party Express to California’s Silicon Valley — to support a Democrat.
To finance the effort, former Rep. Ernie Konnyu wrote, supporters would need to raise $50,000 to help out Democrat Ro Khanna, who is now challenging Democratic Rep. Mike Honda.
Somehow, Konnyu ended up with a detailed opposition research report on Honda. "I received a well researched and referenced document I requested," he said in the email, but he didn't say from whom he received that document. The Khanna campaign didn't throw any money into this bizarre efforts, and they say that Konnyu—whose endorsement "we’re happy to have"—is acting on his own. But the campaign didn't respond to questions about how Konnyu might have gotten all that opposition research on Honda.
But this is the best part: Khanna campaign spokesperson Tyler Law "accused Honda supporters of trying to tie Khanna to the tea party." From here, it looks a lot more like Khanna's supporters are the ones trying to do that.
Please help keep a strong progressive in office by giving to Rep. Mike Honda.
