Regardless of where you look, the missing element in the conservative narrative is credibility. There is not a trace of credibility to be found anywhere in the GOP narrative. The GOP spent years telling the President to put off the employer mandate in the healthcare reform act (ACA). They had all kinds of excuses and every talk show host out there was promoting the importance of postponing the employer mandate. So the president went along with it. Now they are suing him for doing the very thing they urged him to do. So we must conclude that the GOP was urging the president to break the law. Why would one of our political parties urge the president to break the law? Let us look at some other games that have been played by the GOP.
Obama ran for President with an agenda that included closing GITMO. Once he was elected he began the process of closing GITMO but then the GOP mounted a coast-to-coast media campaign to not close down GITMO. But as soon as President Obama put off closing GITMO we suddenly heard people like Michael Medved and other right wing talking heads accusing the President of breaking his promise to close GITMO. That's the game playing that goes on within the republican party. Not the republican voter - the republican party itself. Last year we saw the GOP urging the president to intervene in the Syrian conflict. Members of the GOP in the House and Senate were trying to get the president to get us involved in the Syrian war. The same folks who accused the president of not consulting with them were now telling the president to act on his own. But that time the president called them on it. He asked for a congressional resolution directing him and authorizing him to intervene in the Syrian conflict. And we saw what happened. The GOP got cold feet and refused to introduce a resolution on Syria. They were just wanting to get the president into some kind of political bind. In effect these republican politicians are acting like children playing head games. It is really pathetic. So they sought a situation where they could accuse Obama of a lack of leadership by keeping us OUT of the Syrian conflict OR on the other hand accusing the president of getting us INTO the Syrian conflict. That's how the GOP governs! They sit around brainstorming on how and when and where they can obstruct and bring dysfunction to the Obama Administration. And these are adults we are talking about - adults that are acting like 12 year olds.
This week we have been subject to a mass discussion on the topic of immigration. There we find Governor Rick Perry of Texas and his act of placing the national guard (NG) on the border. The first thing that we all wonder about is why? Why did Mr Perry wait so long to do this? Why hasn't the governor sent the national guard to the Texas border prior to this? After assessing the entire episode we can conclude with three possible answers to that question. First, it could be that Mr Perry did not know that he had the authority to send the NG to the border. That could very well be true because this is the same man who could not remember three separate governmental agencies he would have shut down had he been elected President of the United States. Who in the world runs for president without having a commanding grasp of the issues and the structure and inner workings of the U.S. government? So it could be that he did not know he had the power to send the NG to the border until now.
Secondly it could be that he is just trying to make-up for his own contribution to this very problem. Let us remember that it was Governor Rick Perry who several years ago told the Latin American community that children of illegal aliens should be given free tuition to colleges and universities in Texas. Rick Perry said that! NOT Barack Obama! Furthermore he accused conservatives who disagreed with him of "not having a heart" for not going along with that idea. That statement was just mind boggling. We are talking about Texas, a state that has been inundated with illegal immigrants. This is the governor of the state of Texas making comments that served as invitations for even greater entry of illegals into Texas. Of course these days he is just another Republican blaming Obama for everything.
The third reason could be just plain old theatrics. Putting on a show as with Darrell Issa! The problem with political theatrics is that at the end - if you do not show some results - then you come off as incompetent and wasteful of tax payer money. Which is precisely what tax payers see in Darrell Issa and his investigative productions. So we now know the IRS has some missing emails. Wow. What about the 2 million emails that went missing from the Bush Administration when congress tried to look into the genesis of the Iraqui war? What about those emails? As we previously stated - this is a party with ZERO credibility. Sending the NG to the border will do absolutely nothing! It's a great show! And of course thousands of republican voters will fall for the theatrics.
There are two things that might fix the problem. A wall built along the Texas border might get the job done. However it seems that Republicans do not ever intend on building such a wall. We had Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush - all of them had the opportunity to build such a wall but none of them lifted a finger to do so. In fact George Bush had the plans and the funds to built such a wall. It was part of the republican agenda when in the year 2000 the GOP took over the presidency, the senate, the house and ran every agency in the federal government. Billions of dollars were set aside for construction of a wall on the border. So what happened? Where is the wall? What happened to the billions of dollars allocated to that project? In fact the situation with undocumented immigrants today appears to go back to Ronald Reagan who granted a blanket amnesty to over three million illegal aliens in America. That act simply told the world that if they come to America illegally and remain long enough they will receive amnesty. So the GOP can blame Obama all they want but we as Americans are not that stupid! We know that republicans will never ever ever build a wall along the Texas border. The Republican Party and its conservative core are the lapdogs of corporate America. And corporate America needs and wants that cheap labor. We can recall President Reagan and his call to Gorbachev to "tear down this wall". He is the darling of the GOP. So is the GOP going to now resort to 'Mr President put up a wall'!!! Visually, politically, philosophically and from the perception viewpoint that would be a devastating scenario! Forget the wall because it is never going to happen!! It is all just a GOP ploy to get votes.
The other thing that could work is a major crack down on American companies that hire the undocumented. We all noticed Michelle Bachman and others talking about all these jobs that are "taken" by illegal aliens - who are breaking the law. Actually nobody takes jobs away from other people. Jobs are offered to people by the corporate world. Yet we don't hear one word about the illegal actions of corporate America. What about businesses that break the law? It is the business world that invites illegals to enter our country illegally everyday. Businesses that push aside American citizens and have abandoned the American worker in pursuit of cheap labor and therefore higher profits for themselves. It is all about greed! Greed that will ultimately destroy our capitalist system. Capitalism should and could work for everyone. Not just for the few. It's ok for businesses to raise their prices every six months. But the workers - they have to wait decades to get pay raises.
The GOP has become a business for corporate America and predatory capitalists. We saw trillions of dollars go from the hands of ordinary Americans and the U.S. treasury and into the hands of corporate America and its predatory members. It happened under Bush and Chaney. And the last time it happened it was under the Presidency of George H.W. Bush and the collapse of the Savings and Loan financial industry. Coincidence? Or perhaps a huge trillion dollar game that waits for a Republican government to be in place - then they all get to cash in! As to amnesty - what we all saw the events in Murrietta, California. It serves as a great example of the hypocrisy with this issue. They kept the buses from bringing undocumented children to their city. Yet when you drive around the city all you see are undocumented workers putting up buildings, cutting lawns etc. And finally, the GOP is granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants everyday. By the GOP not acting on the issue of immigration, the undocumented simply gets to remain in America. In effect by not acting on a set of new regulations and procedures on the issue of immigration the GOP is in effect granting them amnesty.
