New York's NBC Channel 4 News reports that sources have indicated
After 9 Months, Federal Probe of GWB Closure Finds No Link to Christie, Federal Sources Say. Jonathan Dienst, Joe Valiquette and Pete Williams write:
The U.S. Justice Department investigation into New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s role in “Bridgegate” has thus far uncovered no information he either knew in advance or directed the closure of traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge, federal officials tell NBC 4 New York.
Federal officials caution that the investigation begun nine months ago is ongoing and that no final determination has been made, but say that after nine months authorities have uncovered no information Christie either knew in advance or ordered the closure of traffic lanes.
“My experience with federal law enforcement is that once you reach critical mass if you don’t have it within nine months or so you’re not likely to ever get it,” former federal prosecutor Robert W. Ray said.
The authors note that Christie could still face "complications" from the image he had little control over his staff. They do not mention that the SEC's security fraud case is still ongoing as well.
I have to confess this surprises me. If it turns out to be true I will owe Governor Christie an apology because I've been convinced of his guilt for a long time. But, this is why we have an independent judicial system.
We still need explanations for why so many of his public statements are at odds with so many independent witness, however, it is not illegal for politicians to deceive the public.
4:57 PM PT: Chris Christie blasts bridge scandal committee, says it should 'wrap up'
TRENTON — Declaring they should “wrap up” their work, Gov. Chris Christie unleashed today on the Democratic-controlled legislative committee investigating his administration over the George Washington Bridge lane closure controversy.
The governor blasted the committee’s co-chairman as a politician in search of the limelight and declared he’s “really growing tired” of the lawmaker, state Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex). ...
“These are people who are addicted to MSNBC and the front page of your papers,” he said. “They’ve been irresponsible and the leadership of the committee has been irresponsible in permitting this stuff to happen – fact, absolute fact.”
Wisniewski strongly disagreed with Christie's charges. “I think the governor doth protest too much.”
He accused the governor of reneging on a vow to fully cooperate with the investigation by refusing to provide certain documents to the committee by evoking executive privilege.
“There are unanswered questions,” said Wisniewski.
This update may shed new light on the above post. Could it be this is an orchestrated counter-attack by Christie. In the past Christie has often seemed to create major diversions just before unfavorable publicity.
It will be interesting to see if any new announcements show up in the next week.
