More than a year ago now, I filed to run as a Democrat (because I are one) for Texas 12th Congressional District, and have been so busy building a grassroots, volunteer-driven campaign I've not had a chance to read, much less contribute to any blogs or such beyond my almost daily Facebook postings. To give you a quick sense of me, I actually went on ballot by citizen petition, which virtually no Congressional candidates do, and was the first candidate to file in the TDP's Austin office - two hours before Wendy!
As regards my late arrival to KOS, I know, I know - should have been here from the get-go. So shoot me already! (heh-heh, JK - guess we Texans need to be more careful than many about making those sort of jokes, eh?)
Anyway, with more already on our plates than we can say grace over, I've told my comms team we need to start being here on a regular basis, which probably means at least once a week. I'm going to embarrass them by doing this first diary post myself, which might spur them into action out of their strong sense of loyalty, and their interest in protecting their shoot-from-the-hip candidate from himself...
Swamped, I'm going to load this up with a few links to get you started, and hope you'll take a gander when you can. Let us know here or there what you like and don't, feel free to make suggestions, give advice, solicit answers on specific topics/issues, etc. We'll do our best to respond as quickly as possible, and feel free to cross-post anything of mine. We ain't hiding...
Yes, I like ellipses. A lot. They indicate unfinished thoughts or discussions, and I think most are. Thoughts and discusssions. Unfinished. No?
Me in a nutshell? Fifty-six year old three-plus decades-married father of two wonderful adult children; radical centrist progressive dedicated to political reform and creating a society which works as well as possible for the greatest number of people and creates the brightest possible future for the next generation; native Texan, college-degreed, former military and law enforcement, construction and communications professional, thinker.
Did I mention my passion for political reform? Particularly getting the money out of the process by publicly funding campaigns, eliminating partisan gerrymandering by completely automating the process, and a few other tweaks but those are the main ones. I am also fiercely passionate about renewable energy, water conservation, efficient transportation systems, government transparency, civil rights and more...
My political background runs from small town non-partisan campaigns to Republican (Reagan), then Independent (Perot), and finally Democratic, where I have been constantly and increasingly involved since 1996. I ran for this same sat in 2000, and according to Wikipedia am the only serious challenger Kay Granger has ever faced. ( still need to find out who came up with that and send them a pan of brownies or something.) I also served for a term on Benbrook's City Council, and have been active in several grassroots political and civic efforts over the years, although I don't term myself an "activist" because I know too many who really are.
Okay, here come the links if you want to know more, and we'll drop in with something of more substance in the not distant future...
First, we always need more volunteersand more money. Early voting starts seven weeks from today and election day is nine weeks from tomorrow. We have calls to make and doors to knock and signs and other things to print and, well, you do the math. For other info just go to our websiteand wander around - is getting a pretty severe face-lift this week I understand so if you find any hiccups don't let it discourage you from coming back.
Thanks for visiting. Please come back soon!
