The cover of the New York Post this morning introduces the Clinton's new grandchild with the phrase "Another liberal cry-baby for Dem Clinton."
Generally, I give very little regard to what I see on the front cover of the post, but this statement seemed a bit beyond the pale for me. Hit a nerve. And I realized why: Even in the most innocuous, non-political, non-threatening moment in life - the birth of a child - conservatives still feel the need to advance their seething hatred for anyone who doesn't view the world through their myopic eyes, particularly the Clintons.
Why? Because the Clinton's beat them at their own game, showed their ideas for the cynical, empty, and opportunistic blather it was, and increased their frustration when the majority of the public STILL loved them over any republican.
Hard-core conservatives are nasty people. They're nasty because they see the world through fear but actually think their fear is strength. They believe being strong is in what you say and not what you do, unlike democrats, who go to war as a last option rather than an excuse to not expose your insecurity.
Hard-core conservatives only want happiness for themselves and those like them. The idea that people like the Clinton's could thrive despite how unfit conservatives feel they are for this world is infuriating.
And, so, in their ineffectual weakness, they insult Chelsea Clinton's baby. Why not. The simple fact that that baby is of the same genetic material as their sworn enemy makes this baby their enemy as well. So, lets insult the baby. Sure, it's a clever play on words, but I'm sure there's a clever play on the word "rape" out there somewhere, too. Just because it's clever doesn't diffuse the nastiness.
Here's a unique idea, conservatives: Get a backbone. Stop being cowards. Get into a fight with someone your own size and don't convince yourselves that getting joy out of insulting a family and their child makes you big men and women.
You're not - and that's one of the primary reasons the country has been moving away from you and your beliefs for the last decade.
