A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What's YOUR favorite game?
I've loved games ever since I was a kid.
Nowadays I play a lot of online games, from Farm Heroes Saga (yes, a Facecrack game) to Pysol Solitaire to Scrabble. These games are easy to access, easy to play all by yourself and best of all, they are free, free, free.
But when I was a child of the 60s, we played games like: Monopoly, Yahtzee, Sorry, Life, Dominos, Battleship, checkers and chess and Chinese Checkers (which oddly enough is played with marbles and not checker bits) - and one heck of a lot of card games, from Canasta to Poker.
During the 1960s and 1970s we played a lot of outdoor games like Yard Darts (yes, the steel point sort which have been banned from sale in the US for decades now), Volleyball, table tennis and hopscotch. In the summer we played on Slip-n-Slides and in inflatable pools.
But my favorite game since my mid-twenties has always been Billiards, specifically eight ball. I fell in love with the idea of pool when I watched The Color of Money way back in 1986. Now those guys were playing Nine ball, and I've played that version, too. But I like 8 Ball Mixed Doubles the best.
This is the version which you play as teams, one man and one woman (the mixed part) on each team.
There are Pool Leagues throughout the US in which Mixed Doubles 8 Ball is the game. I ran a River City Pool Mixed Doubles team for about a decade. We had 10 people (five Mixed Doubles) on our team, and by the end of the decade we were more like family. I haven't played now in quite some time, but I've been considering taking it back up again.
How about all of you, what's YOUR favorite game, and is it from childhood, or something you came to love as a grownup?
as always...

by John Crapper ♥ for Seattle and Puget Sound Kos
Seattle & Puget Sound Kos welcomed Joan McCarter, Meteor Blades, Monique Teal and navajo to their meet-up on January 17th. Almost 40 people attended. All had a great time mingling, listening to the DKos speakers and then finishing up with a Q&A session. Good food, great location and most of all great Kossacks.
