We already knew that the GOP already has the Texas Legislature rigged. But now that democracy is too much for them, they went ahead and changed the rules.
From the Dallas Morning News:
The Senate’s Republican majority on Wednesday pushed through a partisan rule change that will make it possible to consider GOP-backed legislation without the support of any Democrats.
Under the move, approved 20-10 along party lines, the decades-old rule that required a two-thirds majority to take up a bill on the Senate floor was scrapped in favor of a new three-fifths rule. Instead of 21 senators, it will now take 19 senators to consider legislation.
But how will this undermine democracy?
Republicans control 20 seats in the 31-member chamber, so they will have a vote to spare
Oh. Republicans love them some freedom and democracy, just so long as you play by their rules. America also had another three-fifths rule (compromise) back in the day. I hope this one works just as well for the Old White Party. Also, shame on
Eddie Lucio for going with the Republicans on this charade.
