A brief update on the Jonathan Ferrell case: We learned yesterday, 20 Jan 2015, that a trial date has been set for the officer, Randall Kerrick. The trial is scheduled to begin 20 July 2015 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County. Kerrick faces a charge of voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Ferrell, an unarmed black man who was seeking help after a car accident.

The presiding Judge, Robert C. Ervin, is based in Burke County, NC. The NC State Attorney General's office is prosecuting the case on the request of the local DA to avoid possible conflict of interest. A dashcam video of the incident has not been released to the public and is expected to figure prominently in the evidence.
For background please see my earlier diaries on this tragic case. I will continue to post developments in what is likely to be a very high-profile trial.
