The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Rain, sun, wind...insects, birds, flowers...meteorites, rocks...seasonal changes...all are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
No bucket yet today so I'll post a short one.
This morning I saw approximately a dozen white pelicans from my house (we were just leaving and they were moving in and out of our field of view so an exact count was not possible).
I've recorded white pelicans on our yard list every year since the backyard bird race began. As the largest bird on my list they are hard to miss when they are around.
Most years I have one or two observations usually in the spring when the birds are leaving the coast to head north. In the winter of 2012-2013 a group of about 40 overwintered on lake Jackson and we saw them many times.
This is my second sighting in about a week so I'm wondering if a group has decided to relocate to the lake for the rest of the winter?
OK - Now it's your turn to report on events in your neck of the woods (or plains or deserts, or abyssal depths of the ocean).
"Spotlight on Green News & Views" is posted every Saturday at 1:00 pm Pacific Time and Wednesday at 3:30 on the Daily Kos front page. It's a great way to catch up on diaries you might have missed. Be sure to recommend and comment in the diary.
