Wingnut blogger, sometime columnist, and rabid Islamophobe Debbie Schlussel seems to think that if you attack Israel, you deserve anything you get--even death. For those who missed it, she saw fit to slime Kayla Mueller on her blog just hours after it was confirmed that she had died while in ISIS custody--all because Mueller had briefly volunteered with a pro-Palestinian group in 2010. As I mentioned at Liberal America, it's not the first time she's seen fit to trash the dead just because in life they were less than supportive of Israel. For instance, she claimed the victims of the 2011 Norway massacre got a dose of karma for holding a "boycott Israel" sign the day before the shootings.
Well, last night was no exception. Just hours after Bob Simon died in a car accident, Schlussel took to Twitter to tap-dance on his grave.
As near as I can tell, Schlussel may have been referring to a piece that aired on 60 Minutes in 2012 about the straits faced by Palestine's Christians. It was so controversial that Israel's ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, called CBS to complain. However, when Oren told Simon that he had information that the story was going to be a hatchet job, Simon fired back, "Nothing's been confirmed by the interview, Mr. Ambassador, because you don't know what's going to be put on air."
Whatever the case, the fact remains that Schlussel has, once again, shown that she is missing the switch in her brain that makes her human. Somewhere I recall that the Washington Times and Jerusalem Post run some of her columns. They'd have to be out of their minds to associate themselves with her now.
If Schlussel has anything in her, she will apologize to Simon's family. Now.
