Greetings and welcome to the Street Prophets group open thread for Friday the 20th of February, 2015 in the great and glorious year of the Golden Fruitbat.
I never seem to know what to write about to introduce these Fuzzy Friday diaries of mine. I did take a few photos since last we met, so perhaps I'll share a few of those...
I suppose some context is in order for some of these. I spent last weekend out in the Czech countryside enjoying a thin layer of icy snow. A bit of hiking, a bit of cross country skiing before I finally got around to slopping some whitewash onto most of the trunks of the fruit trees in the yard.
On Monday I went out to the airport to greet a friend from Finland who I hadn't seen in 25 years. He came to Prague to see me, the city, and Queen with Adam Lambert in concert-- not necessarily in that order in terms of priority, but it kinda worked out that way anyway.
I still managed to fit in a short business meeting Monday and on Tuesday, while my friend walked around on his own and met up with another Finny friend of his also coming south for the Queen concert, I made myself useful by escorting my mother-in-law to a doctor's appointment and helped her out with some shopping on the way home. Outside her apartment building there was a flock of rooks strutting around on the grass. They're interesting birds to try to photograph. If you ignore them you can walk close enough to them to punt one like a football-- um, not that I actually do that you understand. But if you stop and face them, fumbling with your camera, they will turn and hop away from you or fly to a safer distance if you pursue them.
Wednesday I had a few errands to run, an English lesson to teach and then, in the evening, my friend came over to our apartment for dinner. What? You expecting pictures of the meal as if this was Instagram or something? Wouldn't you rather have more pictures like these?
Well, okay... so they're not as tasty as Mrs. the Werelynx's Swiss Chicken or as colorful as the salad I made...
One fun little incident, that happened while showing my Finnish friend more of the sights on Thursday, was bumping into a Czech friend of mine showing a friend of his the sights in a gorgeous part of Prague that only the locals and the occasional group of Japanese tourists seem to know about. It was a particularly nice coincidence because both of these friends of mine are musicians (along with their day jobs and other skills) and I'd thought about going out some evening with my Finnish friend to see a concert of local music-- especially if this particular Czech friend of mine was playing.
I managed to drag my Finnish friend over a fair amount of my fair city. He really enjoyed the concert. I admitted to him that my interest in Queen pretty much ended when Freddy Mercury died. He understands. Anyway, now I've got to slowly start planning a trip to Finland. I hear it takes about 24 hours to drive up there... round trip flights for less than 80 Euros...
More adventures next week.
