Earlier this week at a northern Indiana PetSmart, a dog died while getting his nails trimmed. A Niles, Michigan family took their bulldog to the Mishawaka, Indiana PetSmart location on Saturday March 7 to get his nails trimmed and pick up a new leash. Instead, Sherri Mills and her boyfriend, Terry Archer went home that day without their dog, Bubba.
According to WNDU, Archer was in the waiting room of the grooming salon, waiting for Bubba to get his nails trimmed. He saw two groomers try to restrain the dog, and watched one groomer wrap her arms around Bubba's neck.
Fox28 reports:
Archer says he was watching as employees restrained Bubba. He says the next thing he knew, the employees told him his dog was unconscious. He says he ran to assist, noticed Bubba had vomited, and was unable to get the dog to regain consciousness.
As a puppy parent, I can't even imagine.
You might think PetSmart would be pretty upset by this. I mean, animals are their business, and people love their animals. They did release a statement regarding the incident. It reads:
At PetSmart, the health and safety of the pets in our care is a top priority, and we are truly saddened by the loss of Bubba. An investigation is underway, but our initial review indicates that our associates acted appropriately by helping the pet parent find the nearest open pet emergency center. We require all of our pet groomers to complete an extensive training program and an annual safety certification. We believe that a continued focus on high standards is an effective way to hold groomers accountable and promote safety in our salons.
I think they forgot to say "I'm Sorry" while they were bragging that their associates acted appropriately. It's all ok, because the staff helped Archer find an emergency pet center to go to. Which is kind of like setting someone on fire and then taking credit for putting it out. No, actually, it's like setting someone on fire and pointing out the fire extinguisher to someone else.
A social media movement has started in the local area as "Justice for Bubba"
