The satirical online publication, “The Onion,” nails the entire Indiana hate-law controversy with one headline:
“Indiana Governor Insists New Law Has Nothing To Do With Thing It Explicitly Intended to Do.”
Here's the full Onion tongue-in-cheek “article”:

The article's last line pretty much sums up all of the furious spinning that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has been doing of late (so much spinning, he's beginning to look like the Tazmanian Devil of cartoon fame): “Pence further clarified that the act's sole purpose was in fact to safeguard the free exercise of religion it was in no way whatsoever created to protect.”
As is so often the case...real life is often so much more...comedic...and absurd...than fiction itself.
It's sad when a publication intended to be completely satirical...is actually more accurate than other mass media.
Pence is now playing the part of the main character in the theater of the absurd, continuing to insist that the legislation he signed into law doesn't do what it said it does and what it was intended to do. Orwellian is another word that comes to mind.
