That is where all the Democrats who think HRC's email issue will just quietly slip away live.
Hillary's email problems are NOT about using a private email and server which has been discussed ad nauseum. The issue is how she (and the State Department) chose to respond to FOIA requests and Congressional subpoenas knowing that all of her work related emails or work product existed within this framework that she created and whether she complied with legal requests for data in good faith or whether she consciously concealed and obstructed access to information that she preferred, for whatever reason, not to reveal. And in making an already horrific situation worse, did she then, while under subpoena, choose to attempt to permanently destroy the records themselves?
That's the only issue that counts. And that's the political porridge that is quietly simmering away on a back burner that can be turned up to high and can boil over at any time of the Republican's choosing.
From the beginning of this incredible mess, I have been one of the people here who thought, "Wow! This is a big f-ing deal". For a number of reasons, some of which relate to a larger picture of opacity and the potential for corruption in politics in general, which then spills over into the sadly revealed situational ethics of many Democrats who will criticize behavior in Republicans and then excuse the same behavior when it's a Democrat, and then of course into the specificity of how the HRC campaign will be ultimately impacted.
I have followed this issue more closely than most. From what I observe on this board, a lot of people seem to think that the emails and HRC were a nine days wonder that are put to rest and can be joked about for the foreseeable future as an overreach by Clinton deranged journalists to kindle a fire where none existed.
I would simply ask Democrats to consider the possibility that while the initial smoke has temporarily died down, the embers are still glowing and have the potential to cause a full fledged out of control political conflagration in the future.
For those of you who haven't been following the story as it continues to develop, here are the latest snippets of info you may find of interest:
Trey Gowdy has requested that HRC be subject of a closed "transcripted interview" by May 1st before the Benghazi Committee. I am not sure, but the mention of a transcript makes me think this is more like a deposition than an interview and perhaps will be under oath.
Hillary has already indicated her willingness to appear before the Committee in an open to the public setting. IMO the closed hearing suggestion, may be because some of the questions will have to do with National Security issues and how secure her communications really were. If it should turn out that Hillary had sensitive info inappropriately stored in her private system, then IMO any chance she had of being a viable Presidential candidate is over and done. No amount of excuse making by Democrats will be able to overcome the public censure that would come with such a revelation which WOULD be covered by all national and regional and local media. She has already said publicly that no such situation occurred.
What appears clear is that State and HRC did not provide her emails previously when asked in both 2012 and 2013 by previous Benghazi subpoenas. The question that has to be asked, is why not? Who made the decisions to exempt those emails from compliance? This is an example of questions that WILL be asked and answered in the fullness of time.
Another question will be whether the server was wiped when there were active requests for information.
There are ALREADY lawsuits in the system from organizations who feel that their requests for information were obstructed. This will be another source of drip drip drip information that could impact her candidacy. HRC and State will have to hope that all judges presented with such cases will not entertain them. Let me say right here that I am not a lawyer, but IMO the failure to relinquish information when it was clear that some people tasked with the job of compliance were aware of the private emails, leads me, a layman to a conclusion that actual obstruction very well might have occurred.
Now, knowing all of this, how can any Democrat be complacent that the HRC juggernaut will remain smoothly on track? How can the Party and individual Democrats NOT be actively planning and looking for a viable Alternate Plan B in the event the pot boils over?
