Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I love movies although I find myself watching more science fiction and fantasy then anything else. However I do tend to like some films that would never make a critics top ten list. I like to be entertained and I'm willing to suspend disbelief, logic, or anything else to be entertained.
Here are some of my favorite films or as some people would refer them my guilty pleasures although I don't feel the least bit guilty about watching them over and over again. Let's start with Independence Day. I've heard all the critic's complaints about the movie but I love that it is over the top. I love counting the many references to other films and television series. I always tear up at the scene where the President is talking to the pilots before the last attempt to destroy the aliens. Pixie jumps off my lap at that scene because I drip on her.
A film I love but keep discretely tucked away is the original The Wicker Man with Christopher Lee. My niece's husband is a minister and I'm not sure he would appreciate me lending it to the kids to see.
If it has Men in Black, Indiana Jones, or the Muppets in the title, then it is in my collection. I enjoyed Men in Black 2 & 3. They were just fun entertainment. I even enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Come on it has Harrison Ford in it. He can make anything look good. I don't care what the plot is or even if it has a plot just let me enjoy the Muppets. Waka! Waka!
I understand you really shouldn't admit to liking these two films but I love them, Dune and Flash Gordon. I admit I watched Dune mainly for Kyle MacLachlan. As for Flash Gordon it has Timothy Dalton and Brian Blessed. It is so much fun!
Your turn. What movies do you secretly enjoy watching?
