Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 7:00 am Eastern (and perhaps sometimes earlier!). Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Volunteer in the comment threads.

This is a late spring for us here in Pennsylvania. In fact, it snowed yesterday. In years past, the coltsfoot would already be out by now, and the bloodroot would be just about to bloom. This year, nada. Not yet. Just some stinky skunk cabbage starting to unfold in the swamps and flood plains. (Fun fact: the skunk cabbage plant creates its own
"body heat!")
So, in anticipation of REAL spring -- not the one on the calendar that only said it started almost two weeks ago now, but the actual spring that you can see and smell and feel and taste in the air -- I have rounded up a collection of common-licensed photos from our friend WIkimedia, of the fleeting and oft elusive spring ephemeral flowers. I'd say we're about two weeks behind this year...
Looking forward to some warmth and color!
