The sentences in the Nisour Square massacre trial have been handed down, following convictions in October of last year. From Reuters:
(Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Monday handed down lengthy prison terms to three former Blackwater guards convicted in the 2007 massacre of 14 unarmed Iraqis, closing a chapter of the U.S. war in Iraq that tested relations between the two countries.
Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Heard were sentenced to 30 years each for voluntary and attempted manslaughter.

Also from Reuters:
(Reuters) - U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth sentenced former Blackwater security guard Nicholas Slatten to life in prison for murder in connection with the 2007 massacre of 14 unarmed Iraqis, closing a chapter of the U.S. war in Iraq that tested relations between the two countries.

Finally some justice after 8 years. I hope one lesson from this is to drastically rethink the policy of hiring mercenary groups like Blackwater to fight our wars for us. With luck, it might also engender more trust between the U.S. and Iraq and the maybe the entire Middle East. And may it bring some closure and peace to the families and friends of the 14 who were slaughtered.
