I rarely write diaries, so when I do, you can bet there's a damn good reason - plus they tend to be well-received, so....
We're in the first full weekend of the godforsaken Sunday morning shows analyzing the opening of the Clinton campaign's message and the Republican attacks back. I'm not a huge Hill supporter, much more Warren-type. But, because Hill will very likely be our nominee against a sure to be complete fking insane Republican candidate, I have a strong interest in seeing the Clinton campaign come out strong and compelling.
Please follow me over the orange lump of oatmeal messaging while I try to give the campaign a little push.
The Sunday morning shows mean almost nothing in terms of influence. However, they certainly can give clues as to what the messaging will be out where it matters, and down the road.
And that is why I am firing off this quick diary as absolutely free advice, advice that evidently I should be charging $500,000 a year for, given the response I heard this morning. AND, because, at least at this point, there is no way to send a message to the Hillary campaign through their website - or at least one a person can find easily - it is going right here. I presume some here know of a way to contact the campaign or that some in the campaign monitor the discussions here.
McCauliff was on Meet the Press. Now, the Governor may not be "working" for the campaign, but he damn sure is being advised by the campaign about their message. He blew the very first question, and attack, big. It's a first question that needs to be hammered out of the park.
This week, Rubio and Walker both led off by attacking Clinton as yesterday's news. They essentially said she is "too old" by stating that she is a link to the past and that the country needs young leaders like themselves to take the nation into the future.
I can't remember McCauliff's response because it wasn't - "While those candidates may be young, the important point is whose ideas will actually benefit the young?, the future generations? McCauliff should have calmly sat there, smiling, and said, "Well, what good are younger candidates if their ideas do nothing but help the older establishment? What this country needs is action to improve the fortunes of the next generation. Rubio and Walker represent ideas helping the near retiring country-club set."
How hard is that!? Evidently too hard for them. If Rubio and Walker led with this attack, you can bet your ass it will be heard over and over again. Secretary Clinton? Answer right in their face, "Who benefits from tax cuts going to wealthy executives? Who benefits from yanking universal health care? Who benefits by raising college loan interest rates? Who benefits from allowing off-shoring? Who benefits by allowing oil companies to let the environment go to hell? Who benefits by delivering the message of the older, conservative fundamentalist laws against gay marriage? . . . . "
Clinton Campaign? I'm happy to help you guys along a little for free. But, if I am forced to continue to come here again and again to give you the obvious answers to their attacks, I am going to demand to be hired and paid a salary commensurate with those high priced campaign advisors. Get ahold of Marcos, he can put you in contact of me.
I will now yield the floor to the many others here who can better riff off my suggestions as to how Hillary can "Stand for the Future" and the obvious attack on the limitless ways that young Repubs do not.
I'm serious guys. I want the messaging right here. In one diary. Rec it up, not for me, I don't care. I don't need mojo or whatever. But, evidently they are in real need of advice about the message to the young.
