Alabama will eventually be forced to accept the reality of same-sex marriage -- but some folks will kick and scream the whole way there.
Take, for instance, the Rev. David Gonnella, pastor of Magnolia Springs Baptist Church in Theodore.
Rev. Gonnella was given the honor and privilege on Tuesday of opening the Alabama Senate's session with a prayer. Did he ask the Lord to impart the senators with wisdom and to act in the best interests of Alabamians?
Ummm. No.
Did he seek divine intervention for help in solving the intractable problems of joblessness and poor educational opportunities throughout the state?
Not exactly.
Pastor David Gonnella of the Magnolia Springs Baptist Church in Theodore asked God to "Forgive us for allowing sexual perversions to be considered as normal."
Perversion? Right here in the Heart of Dixie?
Asked if he was referring to same-sex marriage, Gonnella said he was referring to any law that would treat as normal something that God considers an abomination.
....
"The people of Alabama voted that marriage should be between one man and one woman and that should be what is done," Gonnella said.
But let's not forget that in 2012 60% of Alabama voters
rejected a constitutional amendment that would have removed obsolete language in the Constitution that refers to racial segregation in schools and poll taxes.
