..those are the words from Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders himself.
That thought seems to not only escape the beltway press; something they don't seem all that interested in reporting, but in fact runs counter to the narrative(s) they have decided is most important. We've all heard them. So for a change, why not instead, focus on the actual issues and the progressive egalitarian platform that Bernie is strongly advocating and has been for 35 years - at least?
That right there, the focus; the "important story" the odds making by the beltway press and the big money lobbyist opinionators is a huge part of the problem needing change. It is a major part of the change-for-better that Senator Sanders has been voicing all along. And what Bernie has been defending against attack too
Forgetting (or purposeful diversion) about that aspect is exactly what obscures the very issues that Bernie Sanders has been shouting from the roof tops for many years.
Once again the pundits steer the national conversation away from policy into a load of meta infused minute by minute horse race calculus and poof! the platform of change becomes a series of questions on anything but real change.
Unlike GOP blowhards claiming to "Tell it like it is" that in reality is: "selling it like it isn't, Bernie Sanders speaks out on exactly what he intends to do, and knows his solutions have been proven to work, here in America and abroad.
It's the policies people know are good
♦ 90% top marginal tax rate? worked during the '50's just as it was meant to
♦ breaking up the Big banks? This country has done the opposite with Glass-Steagall and many other bad policies favoring Wall Street and financial giants - capital over labor
♦ campaign finance laws. We've gone backwards with Citizens United
♦ labor law reform. People agree with Bernie on collective bargaining rights for workers
♦ minimum wage hike, again very popular
♦ pay equity
♦ A majority of people favor universal single payer health care. Medicare for all is a way.
♦ No out-of-pocket college tuition
♦ women's reproductive rights and freedom
And many more important issues
Bernie Sanders is drawing bigger crowds than any other 2016 candidate
by Matthew Yglesias | July 2, 2015
Last night, Bernie Sanders managed to get 10,000 people to show up to a campaign rally in Madison, Wisconsin to watch a speech. At this point in the campaign cycle, that's incredible. The speech, which was met with thunderous applause from the crowd, is worth watching in full:
Stick to the issues and this happens:
Sanders' style of politics faces very significant challenges at the presidential level, but as Sanders' own career has shown, it works perfectly well for lower offices. What it takes is the engaged network of grassroots supporters.
Taking such a network national could be an enduring contribution to the US political landscape.
Indeed. A platform built by the people and small individual donations with the policies taking precedence over all other concerns.
Wow
Nothing earth shattering about this diary and my opinion on it. Just something I don't hear enough of lately. I really think Bernie Sanders is on to something here. Stick to the policies man, and don't let the beltway mouthpieces & msm run the show
Actually maybe sticking to a candidates platform and the many issues should be more earth shattering news - for a change - come to think on it
For a look at what Senator Sanders has been up to, Kossack jamess posted a diary with numerous Bills sponsored by Bernie. Check it out here
