When the NYPD threw a snit-fit, last week, I felt another change in the mojo of this country. I know the police have a tough job. I understand they must feel. I can see the problem. It is another example of the worker bees being treated poorly.
Let me suggest here that it is a basic loss of authority. There is a HUGE portion of this country that have been watching abuse and over-reach of authority for years! I've been living in the shadows of the abuse of authority for years. I survived the Vietnam era, where the rich and well-connected got a pass and the rest served our country. More than 58,000 died in that 11-year conflict and NOTHING was solved or gained.
Then the Nixon arrogance and all the President's men abusing their authority. Or, better yet, using their authority for personal gain. Then the destruction of the fiber of our schools with the "hands-off" drift and lack of discipline. The developing of the absence of authority. Follow that with the Cheney full frontal attack on the integrity of our nation.
Now what do we have? Wall Street robbers eroding the financial backbone with selfish and confusing self-interest. A military with limited guidance, stretched to the breaking point and coming home to be disregarded and ignored. I mean -- the word gets around.
Today's national split personality has been developing for years. Nobody went to jail for the crimes on Wall Street. Nobody above the level of sergeant was disciplined for the Abu Ghraib detention crises. Nobody takes credit for anything and no discipline is handed out from Kindergarten to the White House.
And the police think they are being treated with no respect? The entire country is seething with anger and frustration over the consistent display of treating fellow citizens with no dignity or respect.
