Senator Amy Klobuchar told Chuck Todd that America surpasses Saudi Arabia as the Number 1 oil producer in the world and he ignored her.
AMY KLOBUCHAR: Bigger issue, we're now the number-one producer of oil in the world. We've surpassed Saudi Arabia.
Senator Amy Klobuchar January 4, 2014 interview
Ok, United States surpassing Saudi Arabia in oil production is huge news. Since the GOP are trying to pass Keystone XL Legislation under the guise of
'making America energy independent' American voters really do deserve to know and understand that the USA has surpassed Saudi Arabia in oil production.
But, because Chuck Todd is stupid, Todd's response directly after Senator Kloburchar said that was to move on to an entirely different topic.
CHUCK TODD: Well, I'm going to go to health care ...
To be clear, I do not watch Chuck Todd's Sunday morning Buffoon Hour. However, Senator Klobuchar's announcement was so big that Tampa Bay Fact Checker independently fact checked it - without anyone even asking to - and that is where I picked up on it.
From Factchecker
On NBC’s Meet the Press on Jan. 4, 2015, Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said the new Republican Congress’ first priority in 2015 will be to pass a bill approving construction of the oil pipeline, which would stretch from Canada to Steele City, Neb., where it would connect with an existing pipeline that goes to the coast of Texas.
Klobuchar responded by saying the project "has merit" but that the decision to build the pipeline should rest with President Barack Obama, not Congress. She said the debate has become a "symbolic" one that ignores America’s healthy energy market.
"We're now the no. 1 producer of oil in the world," she said. "We've surpassed Saudi Arabia."
We decided to check out the data and see if in fact the United States is the world’s top oil producer. As it turns out, the United States passed over Saudi Arabia about two years ago.
Fact checker then provided this graph showing the US surpassed Saudi Arabia in oil production two years ago
Factchecker's ruling
Our ruling
Klobuchar said the United States is "now the No. 1 producer of oil in the world."
The latest global oil production statistics back up Klobuchar’s claim. The United States has been the world’s largest oil producer since late 2012. We rate her statement True.
So, obviously being the world's number 1 oil producer shoots holes through the GOP mantra "
we need Keystone XL so America can be energy independent" and that is what Chuck Todd should have been able to carry the conversation forward with.
Chuck Todd is such a buffoon.
Oh, one more thing:
Apparently last week Chuck Todd went on a massive Twitter "Block" spree because he couldn't handle the criticism he got as the result of an article RawStory published titled: Oops: Chuck Todd slips, admits he can’t do tough interviews because ‘no one will come on’ my show
... stupid Chuck Todd.
