I'm not black myself,
but I married a black woman four years ago,
and I'm learning things.
Also,
I'm a little OCD about English usage, punctuation, spelling,
and making my point in few words,
and making my point clearly.
So,
I have an idea for the
Black Lives Matter movement.
Below the divider doodle.
In order to respond clearly to those white folks who say,
"All lives matter. Why do those black folks just say black lives matter?"
The Black Lives Matter movement could simply add the phrase,
As Much As Yours,
to the basic slogan.
Those carrying signs,
could carry signs that read:
"Black Lives Matter.
As Much As Yours."
The two phrases could be joined in all website postings,
any and all communications,
relentlessly,
over and over:
"Black Lives Matter.
As Much As Yours."
Maybe more and more white folks would begin to understand,
the life of Trayvon Martin matters as much as any young white man.
The life of Eric Garner matters as much as any white street person,
selling loose cigarettes.
The life of Michael Brown matters as much as any young white man,
who might confront a young officer of the law,
and scuffle with him.
The physical and emotional feelings of the black teenager dragged out of her desk,
those feelings matter as much as the feelings of any white teenage girl.
Maybe it will not make a big difference.
But maybe it will win over just a few of my fellow white Americans.
Maybe just a few.
Well,
that's my two cents worth of ideas for today.
Thanks for reading.
