For people who are still politically active, how are speaking fees different from bribery?
According to the Washington Post, Bill Clinton, a former president of the United States, can be bought for a mere $250,000, as he was recently by an investment firm called Apollo Investment Corporation which is actually a corporate shell of BRH Holdings Inc. which is really just a shell for three guys named Leon Black, Marc Rowan, and Joshua Harris.
You may or may not recognize these names but they were all alumni from the disgraced Drexel Burnham Lambert firm which was forced to close due to criminal activities with junk bonds. Now they’re all back in business with Apollo which has holdings in everything from big coal to communications to health care. Just your average billion dollar gambling house. Enjoy our president guys.
Of course, the Clintons have spoken to other types of entities such as universities and non-profits and such, and they have diverted/donated some of this revenue to the Clinton Foundation.
But $45,000,000. Wow. Public service really seems to pay off. At least for some people.
