A short little tirade
I don't get it. Trump seems to be causing outrage and angst among the democrats and many in his own party. “He has disqualified himself for president…” declares the white house, Reibus says “I don't agree…” Is this the end of Trump?” declares another headline. Well I, for one, sincerely hope not. I personally think that Trump makes an excellent spokesman for the GOP and where they are today. Many of our own Kosacks are afraid that if something went wrong and he were elected, the nation would never recover. Reading through the blogs here in the Kos-osphere, one might think that Trump represents an especially clear and present danger.
Granted, Trumps words are a bit more course than the rest of the field. And granted he is a little less politically polished. But my point is that he offers the most literal and honest reading of the GOP platform and policies of any of the tribe. Listen to Cruz, Carson, etc. They too are saying to ban Muslims from entering the country — but it doesn't sound like that does it? “Halt immigrants from Syria blah blah blah…” There is nothing in what Trump is saying that all GOP governors and most of their candidates haven't said and/or tried to do. Trump is merely the plainspoken reflection of the GOP, in its most basic form. To the right I say “This IS what you are voting for, regardless of the name or the flowery speech used.” When you spy on Americans and take away rights from a few (such as gays, blacks, etc.) what you get is exactly what Trump is proposing. Don't pretend. Don't hide behind patriotic nonsense. The trashing of the American values has been a GOP cottage industry for years and Trump simply lets you see it with warts and all.
To my fellow liberals I say “let them vote for the truth.” If this is the America they want, make them own it and vote for the guy who says it plain. Cruz’s theocracy will do no less than Trump. Carson’s grain silos are no less stupid. Jeb’s foreign policy is no less disgusting. Rubio’s tax plan no less solvent. These guys act like they are more legitimate in some way than Trump, but they simply use different language for the same D*&^% thing. Its time the GOP turn on the lights when they look in the mirror and see what is really staring back at them. Sorry that 70 year old lady had to work through thanksgiving at the local walmart for $1.50/hour, well “she was probably born into the wrong socioeconomic class — vote for Trump!” Worried about the “code red” in Beijing finding its way into US cities “well thats the price for capitalism — vote for Trump!” Want to replace the presidency and the congress with corporate boards — vote for Trump.
As we go racing toward the social structure of 1970’s Columbia, we should all hear the words and see the actions plainly, without pretext or contrivance. And for those that treat this as a football game with the GOP as their favorite team its time for them to make that decision with the clear-eyed knowledge of what they are dragging the rest of us into. Like the lady on MSNBC that voted in the Kentucky election. She had always been a lifelong republican, even though she was on KYKnect, she had to vote republican. Well this isn't a game and they aren't the Dallas cowboys. Make them say it — “I voted to kill health care for 600,000 people because I am self interested and not so bright and the public school I attended was too busy teaching me to pray than to teach me the dangers of fascism. “
Maybe I am wrong — but I think it is time for the republicans to own who they are. And that is Trump. It doesn't matter if Rubio or Jeb executes the policy, with nice words or with the trash Trump talks, it is the same outcome.
Thank you for indulging me...
